A friendly hello from the Öhlinger family from Linz, Austria! Our family unit consists of 4 people, Manfred and Birgit, both 44 years old, and our two children Susanne, 15 years, and Stefan, 13 years. Based on my holiday diary notes I, Birgit, would like to tell you about the unforgettable camping holiday, which we have just spent by the beautiful Lake Millstatt in Carinthia.

Lake Millstatt

The one to blame for our holiday was actually a braggart called Max, from Stefan's class. In spring the boy spent a holiday with his parents at Komfort-Campingpark Burgstaller and he used every opportunity to boast about it. The site was described as the purest camping paradise on Lake Millstatt in Carinthia. "You can discard at least half of what he is saying’ noted my son Stefan slightly annoyed. I answered: ‘We shall check this out immediately’ and grabbed my notebook to look for Komfort-Campingpark Burgstaller. Together we stared at the screen because what we saw was amazing. Max hadn’t exaggerated at all. The campsite in Döbriach at Lake Millstatt exceeds all expectations from a top campsite. It offers more than one expects to make camping guests really happy. As soon as Manfred came back from work the children and I were all over him with the idea to spend this year’s camping holiday there. No sooner said than done – and a big thank you to Max!

Komfort Camping Burgstaller

Camping in Carinthia on the lake: The comfortable campsite Burgstaller was just right for us. Believe it or not, there was not just a section of the beach available for camping guests at Lake Millstatt but a huge bay including a sunbathing lawn, a private bathing platform, water slides, a sand pit, rental cabins and a beach buffet. Additionally there was a sailing and windsurfing school as well as the possibility to rent electric boats, sailing boats and pedalos. Everything was very well maintained. And the sanitary facilities of the campsite were just stunning: we had never seen anything like this before! Artfully designed taps and wash basins, charming wall paintings, nostalgic lanterns and plant arrangements gave these often simple and functional rooms a special feel-good atmosphere while maintaining very high hygiene standards.

We came with our own camping gear and therefore only needed a pitch but rental caravans and beach apartments are also available. The culinary variety is also very impressive. There is a restaurant and a pizzeria which offer delicious delicacies. And the campsite’s own discotheque ‘Almstubn’ organises events for the whole family. We had most of our meals in the restaurants on the campsite and only provided food for ourselves when we were out and about. On site there is an SB market, which offers everything a camping guest needs: food including daily fresh rolls from the bakery and you can even get a replacement gas cylinder in the shop at Burgstaller’s.

Burgstaller Express

On our camping holiday by Lake Millstatt there were many attractive extras included in the price. Besides the free use of the beach area, also included in the price were electricity and water, the mountain + valley bus, the Burgstaller Express, the Teens Club and various activities, even the extensive sports programme such as archery, beach volleyball, streetball, boccia, bowling and Nordic walking.

At the info point you can book hiking trips and various excursions. No chance of getting bored!

With one of the two Burgstaller-Express trains we got a free ride to Burgstaller’s farm. The train ride was already an experience in itself, followed by lots of other attractions waiting for us on the farm: an Indian forest, archery, a fishing contest, a cider press and more – it was a real fun experience for the whole family.

An opportunity not to be missed was the three-country trip, which was accompanied by Mr Burgstaller himself. After some car-pooling we drove from Carinthia to Slovenia, Italy and back to Carinthia. There were various historic sights, a world cup ski-jumping hill and some lakes to see. We visited an Italian market and a chairlift took us to the top of a mountain. We stopped for an excellent meal and even had time to visit a casino and the duty-free shop. Enjoying a hearty cold platter, called ‘Brettljause’ we all looked happily back at this eventful day.

Stefan was very happy to indulge in his hobby, horse riding, on Burgstaller’s Haflinger and Pony Ranch. He is already too tall for Shetland ponies but was proudly sitting on the Haflinger horses. Stefan is an advanced rider and, after a few training rounds, he was very happy to go with the riding instructor on an outdoor riding trip.

Susanne was very attracted by the Teens Club at Komfort-Campingpark Burgstaller. In July and August the Teens Club offers a full entertainment programme including a video workshop, a barbecue party, a beach party, a horror night, film showings and different sports activities such as beach volleyball, football and water ball. Susi was very excited to be in the club and to demonstrate her definite talent on the club stage.

We parents had lots of fun on our day at the Moor Kneipp facility. The upland moor in Fresach Hochmoor is located next to Baumgartner’s wine tavern. We walked along the nature trail from Lotte Baumgartner to the Moor Kneipp facility. A very funny highlight of the trip was the Moor face mask with its skin tightening effect. After this event we enjoyed a hearty snack in the wine tavern.

Time to say good bye to Komfort-Camping Burgstaller! But we will certainly come back again. There is so much to see and to experience and there is no better place for us when we think about a perfect camping holiday.
