And even if you cannot jump into the nearby lake during the cold season, there are plenty of other activities that make winter camping an unforgettable experience. Excellent snow conditions make sure that winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy many different activities.

Cross-country skiing is right at the top of the popularity scale, which is not surprising when you think that the trails run through the breathtaking snow-covered landscapes. It warms your heart when the white splendour glistens in the sun! Ten of the 15 Top Camping Austria sites are open during the winter season. ZUGSPITZ RESORT – MAGICAL LANDSCAPE

You don’t need your car during your holiday on this campsite, because you can start your cross-country tour, which is part of the “Mutters-Natters” track network, directly from the campsite. The use of the 18-kilometre route is free of charge. In addition, there are a further 120 groomed trails with guaranteed snow cover available in the surrounding area. The “Ferienparadies Natterer See” offers many free services. For example, there is a ski bus, which brings you free of charge to the Olympic Skiing area of Innsbruck and there is also the tractor-tow service for caravans as well as a free bus service to the old town of Innsbruck.

ERLEBNIS-CAMPING AUFENFELD: ON-SITE SKI RENTAL SERVICE

Special offer: On-site ski rental service and drying rooms! In the midst of the magnificent mountain scenery of the Zillertal Alps, campsite Aufenfeld is the perfect holiday spot for active winter campers. Not only are ski rental, ski service and drying rooms for skiwear and ski boots available for all the guests, but there is also a newly renovated indoor pool with a 60-metre water slide on offer for relaxation after the cross-country skiing enjoyment. The main attraction is the “Erlachloipe Aschau”, which starts at the Ziller promenade. With a length of around 11 kilometres, it is the perfect choice for endurance cross-country skiers.

Nestled between forests, lakes and mountains, the 5-star campsite “Seeblick Toni” is located 560 metres above sea level and offers pitches with either lake or mountain view. From the Swarowski Crystal Worlds Wattens to the Alpine Zoo Innsbruck, everybody and of course especially families with children will get their money's worth. Cross-country skiers can access the 100 km network of cross-country trails, which the “Alpbachtal Seenland” holiday region can offer, directly from the campsite.

EURO-CAMP WILDER KAISER: FREE ACCESS TO THE CROSS-COUNTRY TRAILS

“Euro-Camp Wilder Kaiser" offers 290 spacious pitches, over 200 of which are comfort-pitches. There is a separate area for motorhome drivers, an extensive recreational area with sports facilities (including a covered curling rink) as well as a restaurant and mini market. After your cross-country skiing trip, you can relax in the sauna or use the solarium. The cross-country ski trail runs next to the campsite and the network of trails stretches for a total of 140 kilometres. All winter camping guests can use the entire cross-country trails of the region for free with the guest-card.

TIROL CAMP FIEBERBRUNN: IN THE MIDST OF THE KITZBÜHEL ALPS

Tirol Camp Fieberbrunn is located directly at the foot of the Wildseeloder, 820 metres above sea level in the middle of the beautiful Kitzbühel Alps, and offers a lot of amenities to winter sports enthusiasts. You’ll find ski schools and ski rental and the valley station of the mountain railway is right on the edge of the campsite. The cross-country trails can also be entered directly on site.

There is a network of over 100 km for classic cross-country skiing and skating available in the area and all the trails are GPS-recorded. After cross-country skiing, you can look forward to enjoying a relaxing break in the panoramic swimming pool or in the wellness facilities of the “Energiebrunnen”!

SEECAMP ZELL AM SEE: LOCATED DIRECTLY ON THE LAKESHORE

The modern Seecamp Zell am See is situated directly on the shores of the picturesque Lake Zell and offers 160 pitches. Winter sports lovers will find a ski room with lockable ski boxes, a drying room for ski boots as well as a direct connection to the cross-country ski trail. A mobile ski and ski-boot rental as well as ski service is also available. 107 kilometres of cross-country ski trails invite you to engage in healthy exercise in this beautiful region. 

SPORTCAMP WOFERLGUT: RELAX IN THE SAUNA AFTER CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING!

The Sportcamp Woferlgut in Bruck - Zell am See offers an extensive range of wellness facilities, which includes not only a sauna area with Kneipp facilities, but also a Turkish steam bath and an infrared cabin. The trail starts directly at the camp and beginners have the opportunity to get their first cross-country skiing instructions from the guest supervisor.

CAMPING BERAU: BEAUTIFUL UNIQUE LOCATION

Camping Berau is located in the middle of an idyllic natural bay on the beautiful Wolfgangsee. The luxury campsite offers very generous pitches and, thanks to the extensive network of cross-country skiing trails on the nearby Postalm, it is also an excellent destination for winter camping.

In Hermagor near Lake Pressegger you will find Schluga’s 5.5 hectare-large campsite. With its indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, relaxation and massage rooms, this site offers an oasis of relaxation.

During a snowy winter, the cross-country skiing trails start directly in front of the campsite. The perfectly groomed network of trails stretches over 300 kilometres. Particularly interesting is the fact that several trails have already been awarded the coveted Carinthian cross-country trail award.
