Cycling and camping in Tyrol

High mountains, peaceful alpine pastures and picturesque villages, interspersed with babbling streams, deep forests and proud castles and fortresses – this is Tyrol. The region is so diverse and multifaceted that it would be a shame to spend your entire holiday in just one place.

That is why many people combine their stay at a Top Camping Austria site with extensive cycling tours. There is no shortage of attractive destinations: around Tyrol’s campsites, countless scenic, cultural and historical highlights invite you to make a short stop.

So feel free to leave the car behind and switch to your bike. After all, it is far more enjoyable to admire all these sights from the saddle: with the wind on your face and the sun on your skin. Below, we introduce the Tyrolean Top Camping Austria sites with their wide range of opportunities for cyclists.

Erlebnis Resort Aufenfeld

In the beautiful Zillertal Valley, every cyclist gets their money’s worth, as the 1,200-kilometre (!) network of trails includes both leisurely routes and action-packed tracks. But whichever option you choose, the magnificent backdrop of the Zillertal and Tux Alps is always with you. There is plenty to discover along the way: playgrounds and snack stops, as well as spectacular viewpoints and rushing streams.

Particularly popular is the Finnsingbach circuit starting from Ried, which at around 13 kilometres is pleasantly manageable. Under the motto “Zillertal Dream View”, the Grünalm refreshment stop circuit offers a different kind of highlight – the name really says it all! By the way: Camping Aufenfeld has a convenient bike rental service and provides modern city and mountain bikes – including helmets if required.

Zugspitz Resort

Although the Zugspitze, at almost 3,000 metres, is certainly not a small mountain, that doesn’t mean you should expect only strenuous climbs in the region. Quite the opposite: in this part of Tyrol, you can hop on your bike and set off without a worry. The cycling network covers more than 900 kilometres and offers everything a cyclist could wish for – idyllic routes for leisure cyclists and families, as well as more demanding trails for sporty mountain bikers.

The Zugspitz Resort is simply an ideal starting point for unforgettable cycling tours. One example is the Ehrwald circuit, with its breathtaking views of the Zugspitze. Or the equally attractive, though slightly more challenging, Biberwier circuit. Both routes are packed with fascinating highlights. And if your legs do feel a little heavy afterwards, you can of course treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering in the Zugspitz Resort’s activity and vitality world!
