Summer is drawing to a close, awakening anticipation of a golden autumn filled with pure relaxation, atmospheric festivals and fantastic nature experiences. Around the Top Camping Austria sites, too, the leaves are gradually changing colour, and the lower sun bathes the landscapes in a magical light. The atmosphere seems to have a very special effect, as everything now feels a little quieter, cosier and more tranquil. It is a time of slowing down, when tradition, local customs and camping come together, while still leaving plenty of room for cheerfulness and enjoyment.
An “award-winning” place to slow down
Even in autumn, you can still swim in the Reintaler See on warm days, as it is one of the warmest bathing lakes in Tyrol.
The site’s well-stocked wine cellar is also legendary, and fittingly, delicious culinary delights await at the Brantlhof inn. Alternatively, you can stock up at the farm shop on typical bacon and sausage specialities, authentic alpine cheese and tempting schnapps from the in-house distillery.
In late summer, preparations get under way for the autumn events, including an atmospheric Tyrolean evening with live music and traditional Schuhplattler dancing, as well as the traditional autumn festival. Anticipation is always high – not least because there is also something to celebrate: the award from Pincamp as one of the most sought-after campsites in Austria.
An autumn potpourri for all the senses
When September ushers in the “Almfest der Fieberbrunner Holzschuhdirndln”, traditional brass ensembles in the mountains and by the lake bid farewell to summer, and the cows parade in their finest adornments during the Almabtrieb, autumn reveals itself at its most atmospheric.
Perhaps you might also fancy an e-bike panoramic tour to the Kitzbüheler Horn or an almost meditative herbal walk?
One thing is certain: an autumn camping holiday at Tirol Camp Fieberbrunn is simply perfect for extending the lightness of summer and recharging your batteries for the colder season. Even more relaxation awaits you in the heated panoramic indoor and outdoor pools, as well as in the wellness area with energy fountain, sauna landscape, brine tunnel and many other indulgent facilities.
A bag full of beautiful moments
The covered skate park is a hit even in autumn, and in the climbing and bouldering hall you can scramble whatever the weather.
Hikers can look forward to a magnificent network of trails with a total length of 1,400 kilometres – everyone will find their favourite route. Cyclists, too, have 1,200 kilometres available for unforgettable exploration tours. Whether city bike, mountain bike or e-bike, every rider will find something to suit them here.
Autumn event highlights include the Zillertal Farmers’ Market in Gerlos, the legendary Hintertux Oktoberfest and, of course, the traditional cattle drives (Almabtriebe) in the various villages.
The summit of camping enjoyment
Who misses summer when the peak of the Zugspitze glows in the autumn sun and the air in the valley carries the scent of moss and earth?
Let the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn take you all the way to the top and admire the breathtaking panorama in the clear autumn air. Long-distance views are often especially beautiful at this time of year, and in the panoramic summit restaurant you can even indulge in culinary delights.
Hikes through the Tyrolean alpine landscape are also particularly lovely now: past rustic huts and crystal-clear lakes. In the resort’s water and relaxation worlds, by contrast, the focus is on unwinding – ideal for recharging your batteries before the long winter!
Cuisine, wellness and nature
In mid-September, you can enjoy delicious regional specialities at the Kössen Smugglers’ Festival. “Smuggling” is quite literally the main theme of the event – so you can look forward with curiosity to what awaits you!
In the modern wellness area, by contrast, you can truly unwind. Whether in the year-round heated indoor and outdoor pool with panoramic views of the Wilder Kaiser, or in the beautiful relaxation and sauna areas, everything is designed for pure relaxation. And when the sun sends down its warm autumn rays, you will always find a lovely spot on the panoramic terrace.
Be sure to take a few wonderful tours around the Kaiserwinkl region as well: at this time of year, it often shines in breathtaking beauty.
Paradise for autumn camping in Austria
Visiting the lively farmers’ markets in Innsbruck and enjoying the aroma of bacon and cheese, taking the mountain railway up to the Rosshütte in Seefeld, or experiencing local traditions at a Tyrolean evening – this is how varied autumn is at Ferienparadies Natterer See.
Just 7 km away lies Innsbruck, the capital of the Alps, with its historic old town, culture, shopping and impressive mountain backdrop. Public buses take visitors into the city centre in around 20 minutes. With the Sightseer Bus or the Innsbruck Card, attractions such as the Imperial Palace (Hofburg), Tirol Panorama, the Nordkette cable car and the Swarovski Crystal Worlds can be explored comfortably.
Experience the magic of an autumn day
When autumn arrives in Carinthia, there is nothing better after a hike or bike ride than looking forward to hearty, substantial cuisine. How convenient that the on-site restaurant is renowned for its outstanding menu! Our tip: exquisite beef specialities from the Ossiach Tauern.
You can enjoy magnificent views from the Peterlewand. At sunrise, with light mist drifting over the lake, the scenery takes on an indescribably mystical aura. Or set off early in the morning with a nature park ranger for wildlife watching on the Dobratsch. With a bit of luck, you may spot golden eagles, chamois, as well as black grouse and capercaillie in the morning light.
Varied activities, maximum comfort & attractive autumn offers
With the free Activity Card, adventurous campers can really make the most of autumn. It includes what feels like 1,001 holiday experiences: from free travel on the hiking bus and “try-out” golf, to vitality bathing in Lake Klopein, archery and even “alpaca yoga”. In addition, attractive autumn offers such as the seniors’ special deal or the partner package provide even more incentive.
And because on cooler days you love nothing more than to snuggle up, the luxury lodge tents at Camping Breznik offer a particularly cosy, homely atmosphere – making your autumn camping holiday feel just like home.
An autumnal gourmet escape on Lake Wolfgang
Gentle yoga sessions by the lake, lively evening entertainment, a classic car Weißwurst brunch, and guided e-MTB tours along panoramic routes with lake views and forest tranquillity – this is how autumn at Camping Berau can be summed up. Here, too, the golden season is all about slowing down, tradition and activity.
In the modern Berau Spa, body and mind come to rest after wonderful hours spent in nature and in the fresh air. This leaves you feeling fit and full of energy for the wide range of autumn events around Lake Wolfgang: from traditional evenings hosted by the local costume association, the mountain mass of the St. Gilgen comradeship on the Zwölferhorn, and the Strobl autumn market, to the legendary Wolfgangsee Traktoria.
Autumn delights and fun for all ages
When the Culinary Autumn & Gourmet Festival opens its doors at Strandcamping Podersdorf in early September, food lovers, art enthusiasts and families with children alike get their money’s worth. From the cheerful evening gathering and morning brunch, to the large vintage tractor exhibition, the art market and pumpkin painting for the little ones – sociability and good cheer take centre stage throughout the weekend.
For those who prefer to be out in nature: now that temperatures are no longer so high, the Neusiedler See–Seewinkel National Park can be explored wonderfully on foot with hiking boots and a rucksack, or by bicycle. And as autumn also brings back the craving for something sweet, a visit to the Hauswirth chocolate factory is almost a “must-do”.
Between the Bauernherbst and colourful forests
In the Zell am See region, the Bauernherbst marks the start of the fifth season. More than 200 traditional events offer unforgettable insights into rural life and local customs. Whether craft demonstrations, harvest thanksgiving festivals, guided tours of farm gardens, cattle drives from the alpine pastures, or cookery courses – at no other time of year are traditions celebrated with such enthusiasm. Walks and hikes are also especially enjoyable now, as the forests glow with vibrant colours, the lakes are crystal clear and the mountains appear even more majestic than usual.
You can experience all of this around Seecamp Zell am See. And when your limbs long for relaxation after a wonderful day in nature, treat yourself to soothing and indulgent hours at the TauernSpa Kaprun thermal baths or in the sauna of the indoor swimming pool in Zell am See.
The perfect balance between activity and relaxation
At Sport-Camp Woferlgut, autumn is naturally all about a wide range of activities. Enjoy exciting road cycling tours into the picturesque Gastein Valley or along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, put your skills to the test at adventure golf (even floodlit in the evenings!), or hike along one of the magnificent panoramic trails. And if your muscles feel a little heavy after an eventful day: especially in autumn, a dip in the bathing worlds is a true delight.
Or why not treat yourself to a pampering massage? Ideally in combination with a moor pack, which really boosts circulation and feels wonderfully soothing.
