The first snowflakes are quietly floating down to the ground, stars are shining in the sky and the landscape is bathed in a fairy-tale light. Winter camping is a magical experience, especially in the pre-Christmas season, when the romantic Advent markets open their doors everywhere in Austria. Let yourself be infected by the magical atmosphere and enjoy a winter camping holiday with lights and sounds of Christmas!

Those who take a break at Camping Berau on the shores of lake Wolfgangsee at the end of November can look forward to an "Advent like back then". Everywhere around the lake you can expect a wonderful nostalgic flair that carries the magic of Christmas often missed nowadays. It's festive in the floating Punsch-hut as well as in the Advent train of the Schafberg railway and around the life-size nativity scene. Whether with or without mulled wine, your heart will certainly warm up in the light of the almost 20-metre-high, floating lantern with the light of peace.

Info: The Advent at Wolfgangsee takes place from 23 November at three locations (Strobl, Sankt Wolfgang and Sankt Gilgen), which are connected to one another by the Wolfgangseeschifffahrt fleet.

Welcome to the “Starlight Advent”! When the picturesque alleyways of Zell am See present themselves in their winter clothes, the air is filled with the smell of roasted almonds, freshly baked Christmas cookies and mulled wine. At the stalls you will find lovingly selected woodwork from the region, which is an ideal stocking filler or a little gift for yourself. Musical performances enhance the Christmas atmosphere. After a stroll through the beautifully decorated alleyways, you will admire the sparkling stars at the Elisabeth park Zell am See: the bright glow, visible from afar, is an unforgettable sight not only for romantics. How about a Star-Advent boat trip on the “MS Schmittenhöhe” or a stroll through the fantastic Advent market at Kaprun Castle (which takes place on 15 and 16 December)?

Info: The Starlight Advent takes place from 22 November to 26 December.

On Saturday 1st December, the time has come once again: The Bruck Advent magic invites you to enjoy a contemplative pre-Christmas time. Every year the Bruck Hunters' Association comes up with a lot of nice ideas for guests. The centre of the Advent magic is of course the enchanting market. Here you can expect many wonderful products from local craftsmen, which are almost too nice to give away. In addition, you will find tasty delights - heavenly sweet or rustic and hearty. You can even order fresh smoked trout in advance, which you should definitely try! A quartet from the Brucker traditional music band will provide a special pre-Christmas music programme. There will also be a big Advent raffle with great prizes. The proceeds of the raffle will be donated.

Advent in Hermagor is not just a seasonal event. During the pre-Christmas period, six different markets invite you to spend some contemplative hours at weekends and during the week.

Let’s start with the St Nicholas market on 30 November and 1 December, the highlight of which is a big “Krampus” parade. Exactly one week later the Advent market follows with Christmas stories, Christmas carols and a children's corner. The Advent market at Möderndorf Castle near Hermagor on Thursday 13th December offers a cosy and romantic experience. On 14 and 15 December, the Christmas Tree Market awaits you with Christmas tree sales and the musical accompaniment of the hunting horn blowers. The Christmas market follows on 21 and 22 December with torch dance and Advent lyrics. On Saturday 22nd December, the Christmas farmers' market in Hermagor will start the festive season with sweet and hearty delicacies of every kind.

The Christmas markets of Innsbruck are only a 15 to 20 minutes drive from Natters. As early as 15 November the old town is transformed by the Christmas magic, which takes place directly in front of the famous Golden Roof. You can enjoy its charming atmosphere until 23 December. The magical blaze of light in Maria-Theresien-Straße is more modern, but no less attractive, while the Christmas market in Tyrolean village style, set up on the market square on the Inn River, is particularly appealing with its homely atmosphere. The Christkindlmarkt at Wiltener Platzl is small but cosy, and a very authentic and quiet market awaits you in St Nikolaus. With such a large selection, it is certainly not easy to pick one market, that’s why we advise you to visit all Innsbruck Christmas markets - one after the other!

You will find peace and relaxation at the Advent in Mayrhofen in the beautiful Tyrolean Ziller Valley. Local customs dominate the market, there is no place for bright lights and loud music. Instead you will see a huge, hand-bound Advent wreath, more than three metres in diameter. You can also experience blacksmith demonstrations according to old traditions, contemplative sounds without the support of amplifiers and a “Christkindl” post office. A cute petting zoo awaits the little ones at Waldfestplatz, while the grown-ups are likely to be drawn to the exhibition of paintings by the artist Alfred Eberharter, a member of the "Schürzenjäger" band. The market stalls offer delicious natural products from farmers - delicacies like “Zillertaler Krapfen”, “Kiachl”, “Groiggn”, monastery work as well as knitwear and much more.

Mariathaler Advent

The Mariathal Advent, a very idyllic and classic Christmas market for young and old alike, takes place on 2 and 12 December at the picturesque pilgrimage basilica in Mariathal-Kramsach. You can taste culinary delicacies of the pre-Christmas season, admire the fantastic arts and crafts and lovingly designed handicrafts made by children of the local kindergarden and of the special needs school while enjoying the Christmas music in the background! You won’t find kitsch and commerce here; the Mariathal Advent will enchant you with its authentic atmosphere.

Info: The market takes place on both Sundays from 14.00 to 18.00.

Christmas bazaar, nativity scene exhibition, Advent singing, Barbara market as well as devil's run and St. Nicholas procession - these are just a few examples of pre-Christmas events you can look forward to in Fieberbrunn. Of course, there will also be a festive Christmas mass on Christmas Eve. After the holidays, on 27 December, a cosy Christmas market invites you to enjoy atmospheric music, a lovingly designed children's programme and some time for contemplation. The neighbouring communities are also offering seasonal programmes like the “Christkindldorf” by the lake in St Ulrich or the special light “Rorate” mass in Waidring.

The “Farmer’s-Advent” in Ehrwald spoils you with a very cosy and traditional Christmas spirit. Here you can find everything that belongs to the pre-Christmas time: Advent wreaths, handicrafts for children, traditional seasonal music and regional delicacies. The “Farmer’s Advent” is a popular meeting place for young and old alike and takes place on 25 November at the venue "BieZu - Hof & Laden" in Ehrwald.

Artful Christmas tree decoration

On Sunday 2nd December, a very popular Advent market takes place in Kössen. Between 11.00 and 19.00 you can experience a pre-Christmas potpourri with a lot of contemplative atmosphere. There are handicrafts (wool carpets, knitwear and handicraft items), Christmas decorations, gifts and Christmas trees on offer. And of course, at this market, you can also enjoy different drinks and many delicacies as well as Christmas cookies and cakes.
