NATURE AND CULTURE 2/3 – SECOND OF THREE PARTS
There are many possibilities for leisure and recreation waiting for you when you spend your holiday at Top Camping Austria campsites. You will find plenty to discover onsite. However, it is definitely worth going on excursions to discover the surroundings and exploring some spectacular and exciting natural and cultural highlights. We would like to inspire you with the following suggestions so that you can plan your very personal excursion programme well ahead of you stay!
FROM THE “VIEW WITH A THRILL” TO THE ANCIENT KNIGHTS
Two very popular excursion destinations, which you will surely remember for a long time, are very close to Zugspitz Resort. You can enjoy a journey into the past as well as an adrenaline kick. But first things first: there is the Ehrenberg castle complex, one of the most important fortresses in Central Europe. The impressive ruined castle of Ehrenberg, which is dominated by the equally impressive Schlosskopf Baroque fortress, dominates the adventure world. The “Ehrenberger Klause” and the “Fort Claudia” complete this historically interesting castle complex. And while every single building is already a very special eye-catching feature from the outside, you can look forward to an outstanding experience inside the adventure museum. The visitor is presented with 14 different themes about the castles and chivalry in the 14 rooms: from the cruel crusades and the spooky plague chamber to the alchemists with their mysterious experiments. Short films as well as stunning light and sound effects create real goose-bump moments but also make the visitors laugh, reflect and marvel. Just as fascinating is the nature exhibition with adventure cinema, the "talking stones" and the fascinating power of the water.
If you are looking for more moments of tension, you should walk along the magnificent "Highline179" suspension bridge, which connects Fort Claudia with the ruined castle of Ehrenberg. On the open, but of course completely safe construction, you will have the feeling of floating at a dizzy height of 114 metres. Incidentally, the Guinness Book of World Records mentions the "Highline179" as the "world's longest pedestrian bridge in Tibet style". Its impressive total length is 406 metres!
BETWEEN ART AND COFFEE CULTURE
Two beautiful cultural attractions are waiting to be discovered in the area around the campsite “Ferienparadies Natterer See”. The Ambras Palace near Innsbruck is one of them: The majestic castle is located above Innsbruck at an altitude of 635 metres in the midst of a magnificent, extensive park. The park with its idyllic pond, the Bacchus Grotto, the waterfall and the “Keuchengarten” is already worth a visit. It is a paradise full of romance and magic. We highly recommend visiting the Schloss Ambras Art Museum Innsbruck, which is officially considered the oldest museum in the world. Splendid and truly regal is the Spanish Hall, one of the most beautiful Renaissance halls. The picturesque design with portraits of former sovereigns enchants countless visitors every year. You should also consider a stroll through the pleasant historic old town of Innsbruck. The centrepiece is, of course, the world-famous Golden Roof, which is covered with a total of 2,657 fire-gilded copper shingles. The charming city has many famous sights to offer. There is the magnificent “Hofburg”, the “Hofkirche” with the (empty) tomb of Kaiser Wilhelm I, the city tower vantage point and the splendid boulevard Maria-Theresien-Straße, for example. And if you need a break in between, head for one of Innsbruck's legendary cafés!
A REGION CHARACTERISED BY CRYSTALS AND SILVER
Your favourite holiday resort is Camping Aufenfeld? If so, you can look forward to two highlights in the area, which are all about crystal and silver.
Whether you feel a bit like an ice princess in the magical Swarovski Crystal Worlds or more like Peter Pan during a fantastic journey, it does not matter. The fact is, you will enter a secretive, fairytale and breathtakingly beautiful world that you will never ever forget. Chambers of Wonders bearing names such as "Crystal Dome", "Ice Alley", "55 Million Crystals" and "Heroes of Peace" will whisk you away into a mystical realm of fantasy. Outside, the sparkling crystal cloud will enchant you on your stroll along the “Mirror Water”. A dream that awakens the romantic even in the most down-to-earth person!
A big contrast to this is a visit of the silver mine, where you can witness the work conditions of the former miners. The mine train takes you 800 metres underground, where you get a unique impression of the harsh working conditions of the miners. If you wish, you can also take part in a guided tour or look for a little souvenir in the silver shop.
EXPERIENCE FIRST HAND RURAL LIVING AND WORKING
Camping Seeblick Toni is known for its superior five-star comfort, which you can enjoy throughout your holiday. What rural living meant in the past can be experienced during a visit to the lovely open-air museum of Tyrolean farms in Kramsach. 37 original farms and outbuildings were rebuilt here with loving and painstaking care. Behind the doors and in the rooms the past comes to life because every building has a fascinating background. Little visitors enjoy the interactive elements, the quiz-stops, the free-roaming animals and the "Path of the Senses". From time to time there are also exciting events taking place in the museum. The event themes are varied and diverse: sometimes you can watch how traditional wooden shoes are made and at other times there are knife sharpeners or basket braiders doing their job in the old-fashioned way. And you have the possibility to watch everything from close-up.
AN EXCURSION BELOW GROUND
A very special experience for young and old alike is the “Kupferplatte” show mine, which you can reach quickly and comfortably from the campsite Tirol Camp Fieberbrunn. The excursion is worthwhile because, thanks to modern multimedia and audio technology, you will learn a great deal inside the mine about the former mining methods, the tunnel facilities and the various tools. But that's not all. Right next to the entrance of the tunnel you will find the “Miners’ Path”, which comprises ten most interesting stations. Take a leisurely walk from station to station and get to know some exciting details about the regional mining history. Onsite, there is also a beautiful children's playground where your offspring can freely let off steam afterwards. By the way: It is advisable, even during the warm season, to take a jacket with you for this trip because "underground" temperatures are only around 9 degrees Celsius!
